Intro To "Your Swing"
A Personal Guide to Maximizing Your Health & Your Swing
Q: Why are we constantly adjusting our swings?
A: Because our bodies are constantly changing.
Have you ever taken a lesson and your pro says something like "your hands are crossing the line at the top"? or "you should feel your hands square to the line and extend your arms at impact". Another favorite: "load up on your right hip and turn around your spine".
Earth To Pro: Its not what we"re doing its why we are doing it.
Claude Harmon was once giving a lesson to a women- call her Mrs. Smith- and after struggling mightily for a long while Mrs. Smith finally turned to Mr. Harmon pleadingly and wondered why she just couldn"t make any progress. Harmon replied: "Mrs. Smith, some of the people I teach are sponges and some are ducks. Mrs. Smith, you"re a duck.!"
Whether you are a sponge or a duck, whether you are athletic or not, we can help you. If you are analytical about your game, or even if you are not and just want to f eel better, your golf and health will improve if you simply develop your swing From Your Core Out!
Gary Player once said that the "eyes are different every day". Meaning that our physiological make-up is constantly changing. That in turn determines our posture, alignment and balance. All of these physical attributes effect our visual perspective. If you do not work on the muscles that are critical to proper set-up and swing plane, your "golf perspective" becomes more variable. Golf is a game of misses. Frequency and severity of misses are minimized when our "golf muscles" are developed properly thereby minimizing the variables in your set-up and swing movement. The most frequent flaws can be overcome with proper development of the relevant muscles.
The Most Frequent Physical Mistakes and Some Corrective Exercise
Golf is often viewed as an enjoyable and relaxing "pastime" . Yet the golf swing places an inordinate amount of stress on your body. This stress is only exacerbated when force is generated or absorbed by a body that is experiencing the results of the diminishing returns of Mother Nature. The effects of aging are often said to be unavoidable but the extent of those effects can certainly be minimized. If you neglect to recognize the need to take care of yourself as you age the effect is exponential. Not only will you not feel as well as you might, but the exertion and impact of the golf swing will cause inordinate stress on your body. You must prepare and maintain your body to both generate and absorb powerful forces. A properly directed training program can enhance your golf game and help you enjoy everyday activities to the maximum.
The purpose of this site is to present a personal conditioning program that YOU can adapt to YOUR circumstances. These everyday life circumstances may be impacted by factors such as work, travel schedules, age or physiological history.
We have developed this program to be fun. We don"t believe that there is any long term benefit derived from any routine that is based on old fashioned notions of "blood, sweat and tears". Instead of starting with a negative feeling of overcoming physical obstacles and sacrificing time and convenience, we have worked on applying the most advanced and proven training principles to fit YOUR lifestyle as well as YOUR physical and dietary needs. Our first step is to guide you through a self evaluation in order to define personal goals and determine what life style and training adjustments may be of help in advancing your goals. Regardless of YOUR specific needs, all of the training programs proscribed are based on our four basics:
The four keys are flexibility, strength, balance and nutrition.
The fashionable lexicon for an efficient and repeating swing is core strength, correct posture and swing plane. While these swing elements will be addressed during the course of our program, they are a result (not the cause) of improved flexibility, strength, balance and nutrition. The latter are the building blocks for improving your overall golf health and developing a swing best suited for you.
We will help you understand the fundamentals of personal training and how they should apply to your specific circumstances. Once we have developed an appropriate training program we will refine your focus to address your specific needs. We will do this through an interactive program that will help you articulate your personal needs and goals. Understanding the "Why" will give you immediate insight into the "How". But we don"t stop there! Once we show you how you will be given the measurement tools to mark your physical progress and measure your game against yourself and "THE FIELD".
Enjoy, Good Luck and Good Health! Golf MD
